The Woman In The Lime Green House

While doing house-to-house ministry in Romania, we encountered a deaf woman who motioned for us to follow her. With a food bag in our hands, we stepped into her small, humble, one-room home, unsure of how many lived there. We counted nine at one point, but people came and went, and it felt as though the house itself was alive with movement, stories, and unseen need.

As our team of five gathered inside, the room filled with children wide-eyed, attentive, and hungry for more than food. We began to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, asking questions about who God is and what it means to truly know Him. They listened with such sincerity. Their answers were thoughtful, their faces expectant, their hearts open.

Then we asked the most important question:

“Would you like to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior and invite Him into your hearts today?”

Without hesitation, the answer came, an overwhelming YES.

One by one, the entire family confessed with their mouths that Jesus is Lord. Heaven felt close. The presence of God filled that tiny room in a way that made it feel far larger than its walls. What we witnessed was unforgettable.

It was then that the matriarch of the home explained that one of the adult women in the home was deaf. We had been speaking to her as though she could hear and yet, she never disengaged. She leaned in. She watched. She absorbed everything being interpreted to her. Though she couldn’t read lips, it felt as though her spirit was hearing every word.

We felt the unmistakable prompting of the Holy Spirit.

We laid our hands on her in faith. I placed my hand on her right ear and we spoke directly to her ears, commanding them to open in the name of Jesus. When we asked if she felt anything, she excitedly signaled to a family member she felt warmth in her ears and began hearing loud sounds.

Praise God!

We believe healing began at that moment, and we trust that the work God started will be fully completed. The next time we see her, we believe she will hear us rejoicing with her.

Before leaving, we felt compelled to pray over the children. They gathered in the center of the room as we surrounded them speaking life, purpose, and God’s unfailing love over them. We prayed that they would follow Jesus all the days of their lives, that they would stay anchored in His truth, and that they would never forget that He will never leave them.

As we said our goodbyes, the family thanked us for the food we were leaving behind. And it struck us deeply:

Who would have thought a simple bag of food could open the door for a family to receive the greatest gift of all—Jesus Christ?

That day, it did. And it will continue to happen home by home, heart by heart, through those willing to say yes to being the hands and feet of Jesus.

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
