From Vision to Execution: What Zambia Taught Me About What's Already in Our Hands

A mechanic in Kitwe, Zambia, said one sentence that sums up the whole trip.

“You don't need to eat all your income.”

A mechanic in Kitwe, Zambia, said that to me in February 2025. He wasn't quoting a textbook. He'd just heard it for the first time, and he was saying it back so he wouldn't forget it. That sentence sums up the whole trip.

Hungry for more

My friend Villy Bohmer, who serves with Harvest MXD here in the US, invited me to come with him. We worked alongside Wilhelm “Papa” Bohmer from South Africa and Bishop Emmanuel Shikaputo, who leads the work in Zambia.

Between 75 and 100 pastors, leaders and business owners came to learn. What surprised me most was how hard people work for so little pay, and how few had ever been taught to save. They weren't asking for money. They needed discipleship. They needed to know who they are in Christ, and to see the value in what they already have.

What's already in your hand

I taught from 2 Peter 1:3: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” All things. Not some things. Not things you'll get later.

Then we looked at Samson in Judges 15. He picked up the jawbone of a donkey, the most ordinary thing lying on the ground, and God used it for victory. You don't have to wait for better tools. God works with what's already in your hand.

The fruit

Every pastor and leader went home with a training manual, so the teaching keeps going long after we left. One pastor's wife took what she learned and started her own salon. Today that business is doing well.

What Zambia taught me

People are hungry for more. Give them the right tools, and anyone can succeed. I went to Kitwe to teach, but I came home reminded of something I needed to hear myself: stop waiting for what you don't have. Use what God already put in your hand.

How you can be part of it

  • Pray for the pastors, leaders and business owners in Kitwe as they put this into practice.
  • Partner with the Every Nation Project to take this training to more nations.
  • Join a trip and see it for yourself.
  • Take Born for More. It's my course on discovering what God has already given you. When you take it, you support the work we do in places like Kitwe.
